2007 – 2008 Program Brochure

The Board of Directors for the Southeastern Wisconsin chapter of The Association for Women in Communications (AWC) is comprised of chapter members who have an interest in sharing their expertise or want to expand their professional experiences by becoming involved in an area outside of their typical work responsibilities. Board members benefit by:

Learning the business and operations side of a professional organization, thereby enhancing their business knowledge
Developing strong relationships with other board members
Networking and mentoring others in the organization

The board meets once a month (calendars are set at the beginning of the term) at various board member office locations in Milwaukee. Board participation is a one-year commitment, and the calendar year is June-May. All members are encouraged to consider participating on the board; length of AWC membership does not determine board involvement. New ideas and approaches are always welcome.

Alison Laffe-Olson
Advertising Sales Manager, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Oversees and directs the organization’s goals and vision for the coming year. Chairs the monthly board meetings and provides updates on AWC activities at monthly membership meetings and through other chapter publications. Represents the organization at the national level.

Dena Fellows
Marketing Director, Badger Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired, Inc.
Coordinates all financial accounts for the chapter, including checking account and CDs. Organizes all accounts payable and accounts receivable and provides monthly reports to the chapter's Board of Directors.

Nicole Volkert
HR System Administrator, Metavante Corporation

Marketing Coordinator, VJS Construction Services, Inc.
Develops program content for monthly meetings. Coordinates speakers and meeting sites. Writes and mails monthly program notices. Works with registrar to coordinate reservations and program fees.

Lauren Fistler
Account Coordinator, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Serves as the primary contact for members, and coordinates new member paperwork and fees with national. Works to recruit new members and retain prospective members. Keeps member list current with national membership director. Develops the annual member roster.

Vice President — Media Relations
Fiona Abbott
Founder of Inspiring Women Media and Production Company and Executive Producer of Women in Leadership
Responsible for ensuring AWC presents a consistent message to external media by promoting events via media relations. Coordinates committee to write, edit and distribute press releases to media.

Vice President — Internal Communications
Betty Barbour
Communications Associate, School Sisters of St. Francis
Responsible for ensuring AWC presents a consistent message through its collateral, including the chapter newsletter and web site. Coordinates committee to write, edit, print and distribute the chapter newsletter. Works with committee and board members to develop editorial content for each issue.

Secretary
Abby Janssen
Director of Marketing, Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Service
Attends monthly meetings, capturing all action items and decisions
made during the meetings. Provides timely distribution of minutes and
upcoming meeting agendas to board members.
