10 Reasons
to Become an AWC Member

Networking. Organizations like AWC provide professionals with a wealth of individuals who support each other through information sharing. At the local level, members are given opportunities to network at monthly programs, special events and committee/community service involvement. Our national organization keeps us connected through list-serv exchanges.

Professional Development. Monthly programs give attendees exposure to top-rate speakers who offer an interesting perspective to relevant topics in our professional lives. National conferences and online publications also keep members abreast of the latest trends. In this ever-changing industry, it's important to continue to learn and grow in our careers.

Communications Diversity. Many professional organizations are discipline-specific. AWC offers members the continuity of a professional association without having to switch groups. It supports all the twists and turns of your professional path. Plus, AWC gives you a wonderful pool of individuals to tap if you need insight on a communication discipline outside your own.

Skill-Set Builder. If you have a skill that you need to strengthen, AWC offers a wonderful, welcoming environment in which to learn. Members are encouraged to sharpen and expand their skills through committee involvement, especially those not in their current job descriptions. You can gain hands-on experience in areas such as writing, event coordination and leadership.

Resume Booster. Involvement in a professional organization shows you are serious about your career. It reveals to current and future employers that you are interested in staying current and connected with the marketing communications industry.

Leadership Exposure. To reach the next career level, individuals often need management experience. AWC gives you the opportunity to mentor area college students or coach fellow members by leading a committee. Involvement with the AWC board allows members to play an active role in the current and future direction of the association.

Socialization. While many individuals may join AWC for professional reasons, active members often develop friendships with the interesting, motivated individuals that they meet through the organization. If you're new to the Milwaukee area, you may find this aspect of membership the most inviting!

Job Bulletin. For those members contemplating a job change, AWC offers a free on-line job bulletin at the local and national levels. You are also encouraged to post company openings (free of charge) on the site.

Community Enhancement. AWC offers its members the opportunity to make a difference in the community. The association supports literacy efforts at both the local and national levels. In addition to providing a scholarship to a local college communications student, our chapter recognizes excellence through its Leading Change and Wisconsin Communicators awards programs. Most recently, we have supported the Bottomless Closet, a local nonprofit association that provides professional clothing and training to those women in need.

Special Offers and Discounts. AWC members receive financial discounts on programming meetings, special events and awards entries. In addition, there are insurance, car rental, office supplies, shipping and other discounts available through AWC partnerships with national organizations. Members have access to a national online directory, plus Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter members receive a local printed directory for easy reference. And don't miss Member Appreciation Night in June. Fun is guaranteed!
